Senate Bill 1048 is a bill to repeal the death penalty. It has been assigned to the Senate Judiciary Committee, but the chairman, Senator Rick Murphy, has not scheduled a hearing on the bill.
Below is an excerpt from a letter to the editor today in The Arizona Republic. The letter advocates for a hearing on the bill.
Efforts to repeal the death penalty in Arizona are, as in other states, part of an uphill battle, mostly because of the lack of important information on all sides of the issue.
For this reason, it is important that the bill be given a hearing and not die in committee.
